Sikh Officer to Speak at Military Campaign Event

Maryville Appeal-Democrat reporter Rachel Rosenbaum reports American Sikh and US Army Major Kamal Signh Kalsi will headline an interfaith prayer event on Aug. 5 in New Jersey.

Kalsi is one of seven Sikh soldiers allowed a religious exemption under US military uniform codes. Kalsi’s efforts to reform discriminatory uniform requirement have garnered support from 105 members of Congress, 15 Senators, 27 retired US Generals and 21 different interfaith organizations.

Kalsi’s efforts and those of his fellow Sikh service members can be seen in this outline by the Sikh Coalition.
